SINTOK - In efforts to introduce the GRANTT brand to the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) collegiate family, UMW Grantt International Sdn. Bhd. (UMW Grantt) and UUM, through its School of International Studies (SoIS), reached an accord and signed two Memoranda of Agreement (MoA) at EDC Hotels & Resorts, recently.
The MoA were signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, and the President of the UMW Engineering and Manufacturing Division, Mr. Megat Shahrul Azmir Nordin.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor said that the collaboration between UUM and UMW was the first ever with the inking of two MoA i.e. one pertaining to UMW’s sponsorship of one of the Student Residences (INASIS) on campus for a period of 10 years, and another pertaining to UMW’s three-year collaborative partnership with the SoIS centred on research and the sponsorship of student activities.
"The sealing of this partnership attests to the practical importance of cooperation between the university and industry since we do not want the university to be an ivory tower, sequestered in its own world of intellectual pursuits.
"In addition, we will also encourage the UUM community, including students, to use GRANTT lubricant products for their vehicles and, thus, in one fell swoop, complete the circle of cooperation with UMW," he added.
Meanwhile, the President of the UMW Engineering and Manufacturing Division, Mr. Megat Shahrul Azmir Nordin, said that the agreements signed were the outcome of a series of earnest discussions and meetings held by both sides to reach an understanding that would be mutually beneficial.
Later on, the UMW Grantt delegation was taken on a tour of the UUM vehicle maintenance workshop, the recently branded Grantt INASIS, and the lush campus grounds.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim; members of the University Management Committee, and senior officials of UUM and UMW Grantt.
