SINTOK - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UINSU), Indonesia, on the occasion of a three-day visit to UUM by UINSU delegates, which commenced on 11 April 2017.
The LoI was signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), UUM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, and the Rector of UINSU, Prof. Dr. Saidurrahman, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting Room, recently.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek said that UUM was always receptive to invitations from any party to forge international cooperative links for the common good, especially in the development of the university, the nation, and Islam, as a whole.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UINSU, Prof. Dr. Saidurrahman, stated that the cooperation would indirectly foster closer ties between UUM and UINSU.
He added that UINSU was extremely pleased to enter into the strategic collaboration with UUM, a university renowned for its enviable achievements at both the national and international levels.
He said that the signing of the LoI would facilitate collaboration in areas such as student exchange programmes, double degree programmes, and publication.
The visit by the delegation from UINSU was not only to sign the LoI, but also to hold a discussion with a view to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), UUM.
This collaborative endeavour is expected to further expand the international relations between UUM and UINSU, as well as to increase the intake of international postgraduate students at UUM.
In addition, UUM, through PACE, will organise promotional activities and discussions to set in motion the process leading up to the signing of the said MoU and, thence, to raise the number of partner universities in Indonesia.
Also present at the event were the Chief Executive Officer of UECSB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fairol Halim; the Director of the CIAC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Farizal Rajemi, and senior officers from UUM and UINSU.
