UUM Makes The List In The Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings 2017

SINTOK - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) made history, once again, when it was listed at position 200+ in the first edition of the Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings 2017.

According to the data released by Times Higher Education, UUM was ranked at position 200+ by way of an analysis involving a total of 243 universities from 13 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University (THE APAC) Rankings 2017 used the usual 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators used in evaluating a university. These indicators are grouped into five categories, namely, Teaching (the learning environment), Research (volume, income and reputation), Citations (research influence), International outlook (staff, students and research) and Industry income (knowledge transfer).

According to Phil Baty, Editorial Director, Global Rankings, it was, indeed, a tremendous achievement for Times Higher Education to be listed in the Asia-Pacific Rankings for the first edition.

"This ranking represents the best 243 institutions and provides an overall picture of the countries and universities which are expected to become world leaders in higher education in the time to come.

"There is no doubt that some of these universities in the Asia-Pacific region have proven that they are dynamic and competitive," he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that being listed in the inaugural edition of the THE APAC Rankings 2017 was, indeed, a proud and historic moment for UUM.

He said that the ranking had placed UUM on par with renowned universities such as Sophia University, Japan; the University of Seoul, South Korea; Kansai University, Japan; Meiji University, Japan; the University of the Philippines, and the University of Indonesia.

"It is hoped that all UUM members of staff will continue to work hard not only to improve UUM’s ranking, but also to achieve other successes," he said.
